Of repairs

In January or February this year, I gave my friend Mish (and Eddie) a belated wedding present of some Ninepatch face cloths, Mason-Dixon washcloths and Mossgrid handtowels from MDK and as they have finally moved into a place of their own, they have been forced to get over their precious hand knits thing (which everyone I seem to give to seems to have) and used one of the handtowels. They then put it in the wash and despite the yarn saying it was machine washable, they have had to send it back for repairs.

I'm thinking of threading yarn through the few rows that seem to be missing and then picking up the stitches the way one does so after laddering the fabric. Does that make sense? Is it a good idea? Does anyone have a better one?
